Richland police investigating alleged sexual assault by former Kadlec doctor

RICHLAND, Wash. — The Richland Police Department is investigating a criminal complaint from a woman who claims she was sexually assaulted by Dr. Mark Mulholland during a medical exam at Kadlec Regional Medical Center. Dr. Mulholland is not currently practicing at Kadlec, but former patients allege the hospital failed to act on reports of inappropriate conduct.

Richland police have confirmed that at least two women have filed police reports. Attorneys for one of the alleged victims said police informed their client that charges would not be filed because the assault occurred during a medical examination.

Elizabeth Hanley, an attorney with Schroeter Goldmark & Bender, said, “It’s been Washington law for decades that just because sex assault occurs during a medical examination by someone wearing a white coat, that does not insulate anyone.”

The Richland Police Department stated they are actively investigating a recent report, noting that a previous investigation in 2023 did not yield enough probable cause for an arrest.

In a statement, Kadlec representatives said, “We are unable to comment on pending litigation. Doctor Mulholland is not currently practicing at our clinic.”
